The Canadian Motorcycle Association (CMA) will be holding a ‘Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims’ at Kinsmen Park, Port Dover, Ont., on Sunday, Nov. 18. The event is scheduled for 12:00 Noon.

The CMA event is being held for one of the most vulnerable road users – motorcyclists. It joins with other major National, Provincial, Territorial and NGO agencies for the national road safety event ‘Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims in Canada’ being held Nationally on Wednesday, Nov. 21 in Ottawa.

“The National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims in Canada is a day set aside to remember those killed or seriously injured on Canadian roads, often in avoidable collisions, and those left to deal with the sudden and unexpected loss of people they love,” the CMA said.

As part of Motorcycle Awareness Month, in May, 2010 The CMA commemorated a Tree of Remembrance in Port Dover, site of the famous Friday 13th gathering that brings hundreds of thousands of motorcycle riders to the Ontario town to celebrate their motorcycles and motorcycling in general.

The headstone now shows the numbers of riders killed on Canadian roads starting from the year 2000. The recently released figure for 2009 shows a 10 percent decline from the previous year.

Beginning in 2010 a ‘Celebration of Life’ is held at the Kinsmen Park in Port Dover to remember those riders lost during the current riding season and a commitment from those present to do everything they can to promote road safety to all road users.

All motorcycle riders and members of the public are welcome to join the CMA in this event and promote the goals of road safety, nationally and locally.
