Nitro methane was in the air when the motorcycles hit the drag strip during the 2018 NHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals at Edmonton Castrol Raceway on July 13 to 15.
With both Pro Fuel and Top Fuel Harley classes competing for coveted Wally trophies the racers in attendance was a literal who’s who in the world of motorcycle drag racing. In addition to the three Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Pro Dragster champions included in the Pro Fuel Class, the Top Fuel Harley class included reigning NHRA Champion Jay Turner, 2014 IHRA Champion Mike Scott and 2012 UEM Super Twin Champion Nate Gagnon.
Qualifying on Saturday saw Edmonton’s own Al Miles take the number one qualifier spot in Pro Fuel with a 7.6106 second quarter mile at 160.5 mph, while Turner had the quickest time in the Top Fuel class running a 6.5776 ET at 221.57 mph.
The second round of Top Fuel Harley eliminations on Sunday saw Turner run a pass of 6.4780 seconds to dispatch fan favourite Andy “the Joker” Beauchemin and move onto the finals defeating Scott with the weekend’s quickest ET of 6.4717 seconds at 234.62 mph to take the win.
In the Pro Fuel final Quinn Olson ran a 7.6881 ET at 155.49 mph to defeat Miles and pick up the Wally.
