Honda Japan has granted a wildcard entry for Stacey Nesbitt in the final round of the Asia Dream Cup that will be held at Losail International Circuit, Qatar on November 15-17, 2012.
With two consecutive National CBR Cup titles under her belt, the St-Lazare, Quebec resident has shown she is more than capable to compete on the international circuit. Nesbitt, who won the 2011 CBR125R National Championship and the 2012 CBR250R title, will also be heading to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies selection event in Spain next week where she will compete for a spot on the 2013 Red Bull Rookies Cup amongst some of the most talented young riders in the world. An opportunity to race in the Asia Dream Cup series in Qatar in November is the next logical step.
The Asia Dream Cup, a Honda 250R production class, was introduced into the Asia Road Racing Championship in 2012 as a ‘scholarship’ programme for 21 talented young Asian riders. For the 2012 season, 16 talented riders from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, China, India, Philippines, Australia and New Zealand were joined by 5 riders from other Asian countries to take part in the debut season. The series has full support from Honda Japan.
Riders race the Honda CBR 250R, a production model that mirrors the new Moto3 class in MotoGP. In doing so, the Asia Dream Cup becomes the platform for Asian riders to bridge the gap between privateer racing to full-frame racing either in the 600cc class, Moto3 or Moto2.
By the end of the debut season, the top rider, together with two other handpicked riders, will be allowed to test the Moto3 bike with the possibility of earning a coveted GP wildcard entry in the 2013 Moto 3.
