(June 4, 2017)- Jacob Shaw-O’Leary is back at home in Falmouth, NS, after his crash in the first lap of the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike race at Grand Bend Motorplex on Sunday, June 11.

Shaw-O’Leary fell heading onto the front straight, the single bike incident causing a race-stopping red flag so that Shaw-O’Leary’s injured left hand could be attended to, and the track cleared of debris.

“I got a little wide, my front wheel was on the grass and down I went,” explained the 18-year-old.  “It happened really fast, and we really don’t know how I managed to get my hand.”

Shaw-O’Leary eventually received treatment in London, ON, to his damaged digits.  “I had an operation Sunday night, they cleaned up the wound, they sewed a ligament back together, and then they stitched a finger or two back together,” explained the Honda pilot.  “Overall I’m feeling pretty good, just a little pain.”

Rookie Pro Shaw-O’Leary figures he will be out of action for around a month, depending on the outcome of a follow-up visit to a local plastic surgeon once he starts to heal.  His goal is to return for his home double header event at Atlantic Motorsport Park, in NS, presented by Pro Cycle on July 13-16.

With backing from Pro Cycle, Kimpex, Oxford and LS2 Helmets, the O’Leary Brothers Racing rider had qualified sixth out of 18 racers at Grand Bend and was fourth fastest in the Sunday morning warmup for the Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike class.  Shaw-O’Leary will miss the next round of the Mopar CSBK tour at Autodrome St-Eustache, Quebec, June 23-25.
