It is with profound sadness that Inside Motorcycles reports the passing of multi-time Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association champion Al Miles on November 20.
From his very first run down the ¼ mile in 1980, Al never looked back over the course of career that saw him race in five different decades. Joining the Pro Dragster ranks in 1993, Al would accumulate seven CMDRA Pro Dragster, setting multiple class records along the way.

Other CMDRA accolades included the Trev Deeley Award for Contribution to Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing, the Dennis Mark Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement and the first ever CMDRA Lifetime Achievement Award. Al was also recently honoured as a 2024 Inductee into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
A passionate and talented builder, Al’s Hi-Per Cycle shop in Edmonton, played host to many creations, including the renowned Derringer engine, which Al and longtime crew chief Jerry Gordon designed in partnership with Johnny Vickers.
As a V-Twin innovator and true historian, Al’s shop was home to both leading edge technology as well as perfectly restored vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles including the 1948 Panhead that Inside Motorcycles was privileged to feature in 2018.
A leader both on and off the track, in Canada and the United States, Al Miles leaves behind a legacy as a fierce competitor, mentor, teammate and most of all a true friend. Inside Motorcycles extends its sincere condolences to Al’s wife Charlene, his FFR crew, family and friends.
