(TORONTO, ON)- With a victory in the penultimate round of the season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on August 25, Philippe Masse clinched the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike National Championship for 2012. The 30-year-old from St-Hyacinthe, Que. won four of the six series races on his racingphil.com / Pete’s Superbike Kawasaki ZX-6R. Masse also received backing from Moto Pro Granby and Alain Larouche Suspension.

“I’ve been trying for a long time to win this championship,” said Masse, who first raced in the class in 2010. “The last two years have been a lot of hard work.”

As part of his prize, Masse receives a one-day tuition certificate for the Penguin Roadracing School. The certificate entitles the winner to a Track Experience, Basic Course or Advanced Course at the school, which is run out of New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H. and Homestead Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla.

“Thanks to Inside Motorcycles for sponsoring this championship,” Masse added. “I always find a lot of interesting things to read in the magazine. Maybe there will be a big story on me in there sometime soon!”

Masse made his racing debut in 2007 and in 2009 placed third in the Suzuki SV650 National Cup before moving up to the Amateur Sport Bike class.

“I don’t think there’s much question that Philippe was the class of the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike division this season,” said the magazine’s Managing Editor Graeme Jones. “It is always nice to see a racer’s hard work and persistence rewarded, and Philippe is definitely a worthy champion. Hopefully he can use this success and the Penguin School as an opportunity to further his road racing career.”

The Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike Championship ran as a support class in the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship national road racing series.

The Penguin Roadracing School was founded in 1973 by Jerry Wood and Joe Ziegler. Its current roster of instructors includes Eric Wood, Steve Nogueira, Scott Greenwood, Jeff Wood and Steve Aspland, all of whom bring a wealth of North American road racing experience to the school.

All of us at Inside Motorcycles would like to congratulate Philippe on a successful season and 2012 Championship.
