Emily Dickson of Almonte, ON, came within sight of victory at Road Atlanta this morning, falling from the fight for first exiting the final turn of the first MotoAmerica race of the day.
Dickson was making her first career start in MotoA, as part of the Build.Train.Race program developed by legacy manufacturer Royal Enfield to develop female race talent. Former three-time World Champion Freddie Spencer leads the program that takes some competitors from non-racers to front runners.
Exiting the last turn in the first National of the year, Dickson ran wide and wound up falling in the gravel trap outside the last corner, after running with the lead group throughout the event.
Dickson tumbled through the gravel trap beyond the sounder curb, and was quickly on her feet, returning to her machine with the help of a large contingent of turn crew.
Dickson couldn’t get her twin-cylinder Continental GT 650 machine re-fire but pushed across the line and was credited with ninth of nine ranked competitors in the ten-rider field.
Brianna Cutler of Hampton, VA, won the five-lap race, with Jasmine Noelle from Demoing, MN less than a second back for second overall. Third went to Bryanna Everitt, of Columbia, SC.
The series has another event for the Royal Enfields on Sunday, April 18.
