KTM Canada Red Bull THOR Race Team’s Cole Thompson had a dominant start to the 2021 Canadian SX TOUR over the weekend as he swept all four motos of the season-opening double header at Gopher Dunes.

The defending SX Tour Champion proved to be strong from the start, charging out of the gate in Moto 1 to assume the early lead aboard his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION. He worked hard to build a gap early on, holding a 15-second lead halfway through the race. Eventually settling into a comfortable pace, Thompson finished strong with almost 10 seconds to spare in Moto 1. Thompson made quick work out of getting to the front in Moto 2 and he once again charged his way to a clean victory, leading all 16 laps of the race with a flawless 1-1 performance on Friday.

On Saturday, Thompson lined up for round 2 and the only thing that changed was the date as he delivered a dominant performance in both motos. Leading almost every lap of the day once again, Thompson went on to sweep the pair of races and come away with a convincing victory at the second round. With two rounds to go in the SX Tour, Thompson holds a 14-point lead in the championship standings.

Cole Thompson, KTM Canada Red Bull THOR Race Team 450 Rider: “I couldn’t be happier to kick off SX series with a perfect 4-for-4 Main Event wins. I felt amazing on the bike and rode comfortably out front all weekend. We’re looking to keep this momentum rolling into the final races and bring home the championship.”

Jean-Sebastien Roy, KTM Canada Red Bull THOR Race Team Manager: “Cole has been anxious to race the SX series since the summer. He has some serious skills on the more technical tracks and the Jetwerx/Gopher Dunes crews did an amazing job on the track this weekend. We are happy to have good quality SX events for Canada. Cole once again proved he is the #1 in SX and showed everyone in this first weekend of indoor racing.”

KTM Supported Riders – Recently crowned 250 Pro MX Tour Champion, Jacob Piccolo, had a great start to the SX series with 5-2 overall finishes at the first two rounds. His consistency has given him a solid platform to battle for the overall championship, where he sits tied for second in the early standings.
