July 22, 2104- Jodi Christie was a day late arriving at Shannonville Motorsport Park for Round 3 of the RACE Superseries and sick with the flu, but he did not let that affect his pace when he threw a leg over his Accelerated Technologies Honda CBR600RR and CBR1000RR machinery on Saturday morning; Jodi topped the first practice sessions by more than 1.5 seconds!
In the Pro 600 qualifying race in the afternoon, Jodi launched the 600 softly to be easy on the bike before Sunday’s race. He then worked his way through the field in a few laps to take the win and secure pole position for the race on the next day. In the Pro Superbike qualifying race, Jodi once again started off gently but with excellent reaction time was still able to launch into the lead. Jodi put his head down right away and gapped the field, managing his pace to the riders behind him and bringing home another pole position for Sunday’s Superbike race!
Mother nature at Shannonville Motorsports Park played its usual games, with overnight rain and a Sunday morning drizzle. Jodi only rode a few laps on each bike to shake out the morning cobwebs, then prepared his motorcycles for the afternoon races with a fresh rear Dunlop and low-lap front tire on each bike.
With the bikes prepared, Jodi took the time to watch some of the exciting racing that the RACE Superseries has to offer. As it rolled around to race time, Jodi felt confident he had the package to win in both classes.
The Pro 600 final was up first and there was no holding back off of the start. Jodi launched into the lead from pole position and rode hard to pull a gap on the field. Once he achieved a comfortable margin, Jodi backed off the pace to bring home a safe win with a margin of 5.458 seconds!
Up next was the Pro Superbike final, and Jodi was excited to race against a familiar face, Alex Welsh. Off the start, Jodi launched his 1000cc Honda superbike into the lead and again put his head down to put in some fast laps with hopes to break away from the field. Jodi ran fast times off the start, circulating at the low 1:05 mark, and on lap four set his fastest lap of the race at 105.077, a time faster than he had achieved during the race at the national event in June!
With a comfortable lead, Jodi backed off on his riding and smoothed out each lap but still continued to ride in the 1:05s, bringing home his second victory of the day with a 6.972-second lead.
Said Christie: “I am really happy with how the day went, I had a lot of fun out there on track. My bikes worked really well this weekend and the Dunlop tires hooked up great! I really want to thank all of the people at RACE for putting on such a fun and professional event, as well as the corner marshals of the CRSA for making this event possible!”
Up next for the team is the trek out east to Atlantic Motorsports Park in Shubenacadie, NS for Round 3 of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship, where Jodi had great success last year. With wins in both classes this past weekend, Jodi has his sights set on the double again down east!
