February motorcycle sales in Canada continued what January started for the new year, another healthy retail increase from the same month, 2012, according to the Motorcycle and Moped Industry Council / Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council retail sales report.

February was 8.9 percent over 2012, or 167 units. Street, dual-purpose and scooters led the increase, with street having the largest unit increase, and scooters making a noticeable surge as well, to go along with their 21 percent increase for the start of the year.

Of the four largest provinces, only Ontario had a modest gain, while BC, Alberta and Quebec were in the 14-20 percent range increase for the month. The other provinces all were slightly down.

Year-to-date, all categories with the exceptions of competition and off-road recreation, were part of the increase. The upward swing when compared to the first two months of 2012 is still in the double digits at 11.5 percent.

In ATV sales, the month of February experienced a downturn, with only Nova Scotia and Newfoundland showing an increase. The decrease from the same month, 2012, was -20 percent. That put the YTD at -11.5 percent for the first two months of 2013.
