RM Auctions hosted its first full-day motorcycle sale on May 11 in Monaco, celebrating the Ducati brand and featuring bikes offered by the factory, alongside the world-famous Carlo Saltarelli Collection. The first day of RM’s two-day Monaco auction resulted with more than €1.3 million in sales.

In value terms, the undisputed star motorcycle lots of the sale were the two Factory Desmosedici GP machines which set new, all-time world records for Ducati motorcycles sold at auction. The race-winning GP10 machine, ridden by world champion Casey Stoner in the 2010 season, achieved an incredible sale price of €251,550, while the 2011 season GP11 bike, raced by the legendary Valentino Rossi, made an equally impressive €245,700.

The 97-bike Saltarelli Collection also offered fans of the Ducati marque a unique opportunity to acquire examples from across the company’s history. Attracting widespread interest from collectors around the world, including as far away as Australia and Japan, the collection achieved in excess of €700,000.

Headlining the collection was the 1972 750 Imola 200 Replica, which secured a new home for €70,200. Also of note was the 1971 750GT, which more than doubled its pre-sale high estimate of €15,000 to achieve an impressive €38,025, while the 1975 750 Super Sport also doubled its pre-sale estimate, realizing €32,175.

“The addition of motorcycles to our Monaco sale represents RM’s versatility in the marketplace. Any motorcycle sale that achieves in excess of one million euros and which also sees significant records tumble, can only be judged as a fantastic success,” said Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe.
