The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association 2012 Season brought to you by Parts Canada and Drag Specialities held their annual Badlands Nationals presented by Medicine Hat Harley Davidson on August 4th and 5th at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip.
Showing no signs of letting up, the top competitors in the Blackjack’s Roadhouse Pro Mod class once again occupied the top of timesheets. On Saturday, Len Darnell of Vancouver, Washington secured the number one qualifier position with a time of 6.805 followed by Tony Clizbe of Brooks, Alberta and Gary Christopher of Hope, BC who both broke through the 200 mph barrier during qualifying. The final elimination round came down to a Turbo vs. Nitrous shootout with Christopher’s turbo charged 2006 Suzuki running the days overall best time of 6.794 seconds to narrowly defeat Darnell’s 2012 Suzuki which ran a 6.848 on nitrous.
The Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer series saw a host of competitors vying for the top spot on Sunday, with five time class champion Nick Allen ultimately prevailing with a time of 9.617 seconds. In other classes, Kevin Boyer of Edmonton Alberta overcame a weekend of mechanical issues to pull through with victory in the Screamin’ Eagle Top Fuel class, while Ethan Barkley of Calgary Alberta continued his dominance of the Pro Street event with a final run of 7.645 seconds at 183.68 mph.
With the 2012 edition of the Badlands Nationals in the record books, the CMDRA heads to Mission, BC for the summer Nationals on August 18th and 19th.
