Canadian Dan Kruger had a solid start to the 2019 Chinese Superbike Series with a Podium and a 4th in some very challenging weather at the Zhuhai International Circuit. In qualifying, Dan went straight out with a Q Tyre but couldn’t manage a clear lap due to all the riders bunched up and decided to pit and put on a fresh tyre. The team had an issue changing the rear wheel and lost valuable qualifying time. They got back out on a 2nd Q Tyre and immediately went for it due to the limited remaining time in the session. “I only had time for one flying lap due to the end of the 20 minute Qualifying session but number of guys were on their cool down lap with the hand up but still on the racing line. I squeezed through but there was a little bit of contact and I could only manage 4th overall out of 38 riders”.

RACE ONE: Full wet conditions, We had a good pace but P1 & P2 were in their own race and Dan managed P3 to secure a Podium and valuable Championship points. Our rain mapping was perfect and aside from a visor issue (Almost no visibility) it was a smooth race and went pretty much according to plan. It was great to secure a podium and get that pressure lifted from the team.

RACE TWO: Mixed conditions. We went out on slicks for the sighting lap but the circuit was full wet and raining at one end. We changed to wet tyres on the grid and managed a good start and ran 3rd for the first part of the race. A dry line quickly appeared and Dan chewed up his rear tyre within 7 laps and had to manage the final part of the race with maximum traction control along with utilizing a rain map. “I was short-shifting the bike just to try to get it to stop spinning up. I salvaged a 4th which is pretty amazing as the tyre was completing coming apart. It was a really tough race but all of our sponsors were cheering us on so I knew we needed a strong result.”

Factory Yamaha rider Li Peng is leading the Championship after 2 rounds with Ex-World Superbike rider Mark Aitchison in 2nd. Dan is slotted nicely in 3rd and ready for the next 2 rounds in June. It was a great week and felt really good spending so much time on the bike and to be back in race action. It is great to see so many spectators come support the event even in less than perfect weather. Motorsports in China is growing fast and we are really fortunate to be so well-positioned over in China and to have so much support and some great fans.

During the race weekend, Dan did 2 Poster signing events for MOTUL and they were a big success eventually having to cut the 2nd signing short after running out of hats and posters to sign. Immediately following the race weekend, Dan was hired to be the lead instructor for BG’s annual Racing School. With close to 120 laps logged that day alone, Dan got on a red eye home to see his family and some much needed rest. More testing in 2 weeks and racing again in June, July and September.

The entire team would like to thank all of their sponsors which include Titanic Kawasaki, Motul, Pirelli, EBC, UPG, Hindle, Dainese, Xlite, BG, Brembo, Ktech, RK, Mototron, RS-Itoh, and Nature Power.
