Western Canada and the Canadian Rockies is a favourite riding destination for many motorcyclists. Motorcycle shops, riding groups, and motorcycle friendly businesses in Alberta are hoping that fellow riders from other areas of Canada will join them for The Rally in the Rockies this August.
The event is scheduled to occur between August 7 and 15th. This is the same week of the famous motorcycle rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and attracting hundreds of thousands of riders in past years. Due to the border closure and a cautious approach to travel this year, Canadians will be spending their summer vacations in their home country.
Eric Sum, General Manager at Calgary Harley-Davidson® commented, “Many Canadian riders booked their vacation time off work with plans to go to Sturgis. We hope they will explore our beautiful Rocky Mountains instead.” Rally organizers are expecting motorcyclists from across Canada to ride, trailer, ship, or rent a motorcycle to participate in the wonderful riding in western Canada.
The team at Calgary Harley-Davidson® spearheaded the idea of The Rally in the Rockies and are receiving strong support from other businesses and riding groups. Motorcycling provides an excellent way to physically distance from others. The rally will occur in multiple locations throughout Alberta and British Columbia allowing for smaller groups to adhere to provincial health guidelines for outdoor gatherings.
A calendar of events is listed on the rally website. These events include guided rides by charity groups. Self-drive routes from one to seven days for riders looking to venture out on their own are available. Links for motorcycle-friendly accommodations, food and drink establishments are also provided.
