First of all let me wish everyone a Happy New Year with hopes that your year is filled with many hours of enjoyable riding no matter what type you do.
This year brings another exciting Supermoto season with the National series consisting of seven races. The campaign begins in LaTuque, Que. on May 25-26, and for those of you who have never attended, it is racing in the streets with tons of spectators and a lot of fun events through the weekend. ‘La Belle Province’ rewards your trip with breath-taking scenery and a friendly atmosphere making the racing an added bonus to the whole experience!
Round two is held at Shannonville Motorsport Park near Belleville, Ont. This facility always pleases riders and spectators alike with the challenging track layout where riders muster up the courage to push both man and machine to the limit of traction and speed. This facility is the home track for the Ontario participants, but in no way does this present itself as an advantage. Make the two-hour drive east of Toronto to check out some close racing and see what Supermoto is all about!
Round three is new this year as riders travel to Mirabel, Que. and the ICAR circuit. The specific details aren’t known as of yet, however judging from what I’ve seen on the website and Youtube videos it will be another amazing race in a series that keeps getting better and better.
Mecaglisse is the fourth stop in the series. This race always has a large turnout and is arguably one of the favourite tracks to race on. The ATV classes are always well attended and their open-wheeled racing brings some spectacular crashes. Last year brought French champion Boris Chambon into the mix and the racing action was intense. On a side note, Ontario champ Dave Arnold has some unfinished business from last year after not being able to race due to bike issues. Watch for a rider with something to prove in 2013!
Round five has the series returning to Shannonville for some more Supermoto action. This year I have heard rumours of more Ontario ATV riders due to a loss of venue for the four-wheeled enthusiasts. I never like to hear about people losing places to ride, but I would like to offer them this opportunity and welcome any new riders to our sport.
The H-Games in Carignan, Que. is the next stop on the tour. This race takes place on a very tight technical track that is extremely challenging coupled with “big air” jumps that are sure to please both riders and the crowds. This stop is always a hot ticket due to the August heat and the close proximity to Montreal.
Round seven finds us again at Shannonville Motorsport Park where the stories have been written and riders will be crowned after a hard fought season of Supermoto. So If 2013 is the year where you want to get out a try something different, come to a Saturday practice held each round at Shannonville from 5pm till dusk or get involved through a GP Bikes track day held each long weekend on the Monday throughout the summer! I look forward to seeing you at the track in 2013.
