Vancouver BC – July 31, 2012: The Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC) is encouraging motorcyclists and all road users planning to travel or commuting through British Columbia to view a new interactive online safety tool developed by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC).

Introduced last May, the ICBC interactive, online crash maps have been expanded to include motorcycle crashes. The maps provide information on crashes across the province over the last five years, broken down by region and specific intersection.

Motorcycles are growing in popularity in British Columbia with almost 100,000 motorbikes insured in 2011 compared to 49,000 in 2001. “I am confident that this interactive online resource will encourage road users to use extra caution and watch out for motorcyclists especially at intersections,” noted MCC Director for British Columbia Mark Gray. “This online resource will help motorcyclists make more informed decisions about their travel routes, raise the awareness of high risk intersections and roads across the province, reduce the risk of injury and make our streets and roads safer for all users.”

The ICBC online resource as well as tips for sharing the road with motorcycles can be viewed by visiting www.icbc.com/about ICBC/news_room/icbc_fact.

Comprised of national, provincial and territorial organizations, regional clubs, individual patrons and industry representatives, the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada is the premier national, grassroots advocacy organization championing motorcycling interests throughout Canada.
