We’re GOING RETRO in the September issue of Inside Motorcycles! Volume 16, Issue 06 has a Ural Patrol on the cover, a visual indicator of what this issue’s guts are all about.
Inside Impressions in this issue include the Harley-Davidson Breakout, a machine with gorgeous lines and an aggressive stance that demands attention on the road. A 240 mm rear tire and drag bars let you know this Harley’s got attitude. We also reviewed the retro-inspired Honda CB1100, a bike which came to Canada in limited numbers in 2013 but drew a lot of interest from riders who grew up with the late 60s and early 70s CB Hondas that inspired the new model. And, of course, we reviewed the Ural – actually, two Urals, the Patrol and Tourist – and give you a taste of what riding a sidecar bike designed in the 1930s feels like.
There are lots of photos in this issue, including a recap from the huge CVMG vintage rally in Paris and a collection of images submitted by reader Frank Smart, taken in 1955-56 at Edenvale and Harewood. It gives a glimpse into the popularity of motorcycle racing in Ontario back in the mid-1950s, and all of these photos have never been seen by the public before.
We take you back to Mosport (now Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) in 1967 for the Canadian Grand Prix, which to this day is still the only FIM GP race ever held in our country. Read the full results of that day from the perspective of a guy who was there, our Rapid Classics columnist Graham Clayton. We also profile Audrey Alexandre, the first Canadian member of the Motor Maids, and ‘Wild Joe’ Baribeau, who in the 1910s was an international motorcycle racer, showman and record setter.
We’ve also got Canadian Superbike coverage, the usual tech features and an always delightful collection of material from our columnists including Larry Tate, Warren Thaxter, Toni Sharpless and Colin Fraser.
