Canadian motorcycle sales in November posted a dramatic increase over the same month, 2011, with a gain of 20 percent, or 216 units, according to a report from the Motorcycle and Moped Industry Council / Canadian Off-Highway Vehicle Distributors Council.
Street bikes and the Dual Purpose category both led the way with sizeable increases. But mini-bikes showed the highest percentage increase at 206 percent, or 60 units. Scooters also showed an increase of 40 percent.
The month’s positive numbers were seen mainly in Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba, all with increases from 32 to 42 percent. Most other provinces were at or near their numbers for the month.
November’s good results put the Year-to-date numbers above the same period, 2011, at 3.4 percent. Street bikes are up over 1400 units. Off-Road Rec bikes have seen a 606-unit increase.
Only Manitoba and BC show a single digit decrease in overall sales for 11 months. The remainder were all single-digit above last year’s total.
In ATV sales, most of the provinces showed varying decreases for the month, with the exception the four maritime provinces. They showed big increases for their various sizes. Overall, the month ended with a -4 percent decline from November, 2011.
But in the Year-to-date column, ATVs show a 6 percent increase for the same period, 2011. Only Quebec was below their numbers from 2011 by a mere -1.8 percent. The remainder varied in their positive numbers.
