Markham ON – The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame recently announced the third member of the induction class of 2012.
Mario Duhamel will be honoured at the Seventh Annual Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and Reunion, which takes place on November 3, 2012 at the Delta Centre-Ville in Montreal, Quebec.
“One of Canada’s best known and fiercest competitors, Mario Duhamel was a top-performer on major racing circuits around the globe,” notes Hall of Fame Chair Kellee Irwin. “Mario’s on-track performance and achievements were exceptional no matter where he competed – Le Mans, Spa, Bol d’Or and, of course, major tracks across Canada and the US, such as Daytona, Laguna Seca and Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant.”
Early in his motorcycling career, Mario was a top-ranked ice and motocross racer winning several provincial and national races and championships. But it is on the road and endurance racing circuits that Mario had the most success. A seven-time Canadian SuperSport (Race and ASM Categories) Champion, Mario won the 750 SuperSport race at Laguna Seca in 1997. Mario also had an impressive record with the Endurance World Championship having finished second at the 16th edition of the 24 Heures du Mans moto (1993); second at the 24 Heures du Bol d’Or (1989); and fourth at the 24 Heures de Spa moto. Mario is now sharing this winning attitude as an instructor for novice and more experienced riders and racers.
The other motorcycling legends and champions to be officially inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame at this year’s Hall of Fame banquet and ceremony will be announced over the next few weeks. This accomplished group of men and women have achieved excellence in one or more competitive disciplines or made a significant contribution to the well-being, advancement or general positive image of motorcycling in Canada.
The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Reunion is the annual signature event of the Canadian International Motorcycle Heritage Museum Foundation (CIMHMF), a non-profit association with charitable status. It is governed by an independent board of volunteer directors located from coast to coast and sponsored by the Motorcyclists Confederation of Canada (MCC). Founded by Bar and Hedy Hodgson in 1999, the CIMHMF preserves and promotes Canadian motorcycle history for the benefit of the motorcycling community and public. Since the first induction banquet in Toronto in 2006, almost 100 distinguished motorcyclists have been inducted into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
