KTM Canada Red Bull THOR Race Team’s Cole Thompson lined up for the opening round of the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Fox Raceway on Saturday where he came away with 26th overall in the premier 450MX class after posting combined moto scores of 22-24 in the stacked field.
Thompson was equipped with the KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION where he qualified 22nd overall to swiftly make the cut into the “fast 40” lineup. He started just inside the top-20 in Moto 1 and he fought around there for most of the race. After 35 minutes of racing in brutally tough conditions, Thompson brought it in for 22nd place in Moto 1.
In Moto 2, Thompson got off to a similar start as he battled around the 20th position once again. He dropped a few spots late in the race but he held strong in the final laps to finish 24th in the second moto and 26th overall for the day. Now, the championship hopeful will continue to put the final touches on his preparations for the upcoming Canadian Triple Crown MX Series that begins on July 2nd at Walton Raceway, ON.
Cole Thompson, KTM Canada Red Bull THOR Race Team 450 Rider:“It was great to be back racing, but tough track conditions made it hard for me to find comfort all day. It showed in my riding and results but regardless of the outcome, I learned from it and can now shift my focus to racing the Canadian Nationals this summer. Thanks to KTM for making the past weekend possible!”
Jean-Sebastien Roy, KTM Canada Red Bull THOR Race Team 450 Race Team Manager: “We are glad that Cole was amped on heading to California to race against some of the world’s top MX racers. It was a great way for him to get some preparation in for the Canadian National Triple Crown series.”
