The sixth annual International female Ride Day planned for Friday, May 4, 2012 is gearing up around the world to host a wealth of rider actions and activities led by women motorcyclists. Women will take to their motorcycles to participate in the sixth annual women’s motorcycle ride event whose theme “Just Ride” describes precisely how women will enjoy what has now become a global motorcycling phenomenon!
Occurring yearly on the first Friday in May, International Female Ride Day was created to promote and highlight the many numbers of women riders around the world. “The 2012 edition is exploding with events! Women riders pride themselves in taking part in the day, whether just for a short ride or as many do, take the day off work to spend with rider friends. We still need these female role models in motorcycling to continue dispelling still present perceptions that riding a motorcycle is an activity akin with masculinity. It’s a super fun day – the camaraderie is inspiring!” states Vicki Gray, founder of International Female Ride Day and MOTORESS.
International Female Ride Day makes one simple request of women – “Just Ride”. Sport-bike, cruiser, scooter, off-road, touring or otherwise – all ages and all styles of motorcycling are included. Get on your bikes, be out there and be visible. The concept has assembled its power and participation in its simple worldwide-synchronized theme- creating a universal chain of women riders in the shared activity of motorcycling. It’s one day to celebrate and highlight the many numbers of women who share their passion for the sport.
International Female Ride Day has full support of the motorcycling industry’s key brands, manufacturers and motorsport federations/associations including Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) based in Switzerland. The event gains significant strength each year, and Friday May 4, 2012 expects to host ever more riders and participants than in year’s prior. Australia’s several regions, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide each have huge happenings; West to East coast Canada –regardless of weather challenges, have planned events; United States, England, Greece, Italy, Poland, Israel, Qatar, South Africa, The Netherlands, Russia and others will again contribute to the campaign in compelling numbers. “The penchant women demonstrate for motorcycling has passed through every generation since motorcycling’s birth and this one day brings it out and into focus for all to see! Knowing that women from so many countries and cultures join in and ride together underlines how truly rooted motorcycling is with today’s diverse women”, adds Vicki.
For 2012, MOTORESS has added a photo contest on Facebook where the winner will be decided based on ‘like’ votes. In addition, there will be an award of recognition for the best woman rider activity by either an individual or group.
