The 2013 Amateur Sport Bike class at the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championships will be co-sponsored by Bazzaz and Inside Motorcycles magazine. Both companies have supported classes on the CSBK tour in previous years, and are proud to serve as co-title sponsors for Bazzaz/Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike in 2013.

The Amateur Sport Bike class is for middleweight, performance-oriented street machines and is considered the prime talent scouting spot for up-and-coming Canadian racers.  The class is the second longest running division on the national tour, and features mostly 600 cc, four-cylinder-powered sport entries, with some middleweight twins and triples included too.

Bazzaz builds premium tuning equipment, software and motorcycle dynamometers, with specific engine management products approved for use in the 2013 CSBK national series.  The brainchild of veteran racing engineer Ammar Bazzaz, the company is active in many forms of motorcycle sport as well as in the high-performance street tuning category.

Inside Motorcycles is part of the Canadian-based Inside Track Communications publishing enterprise and has covered the Canadian national road racing championship since the debut of the publication in 1998.  Inside Motorcycles covers most motorcycle racing in Canada and provides rider-oriented feature material and editorials in both print and on their web site.

Last season, veteran Amateur racer Philippe Masse of St-Hyacinthe, QC was the top gun in Amateur Sport Bike aboard his Kawasaki ZX-6R. Starting with wins at the opening rounds at Shannonville Motorsport Park, ON, and Autodrome St.Eustache, QC, Masse took control of the points chase from the outset.

Victory in the final two 2012 rounds at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in ON, was the icing on the cake, Masse earning the National crown with a solid total of  288 points, followed by the Yamaha mounted runner-up, class rookie Will Hornblower of Sarnia at 216 points.

Third in the2012 standings, with a total of 182 points, was the Triumph 675 triple of Newcastle, ON. based racer Nuno Almeida.   Early season contender Austin Shawn-O’Leary was injured at his home event at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Nova Scotia and missed the final two races at CTMP, but still hung on to wind up fourth in the final National points standings with a total of 119 with his Honda.

The Championship chase for the next batch of rising stars in Bazzaz/Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike action starts with round one of the Mopar CSBK Championship at Shannonville Motorsport Park near Belleville, ON, on June 9.
