Do you or someone you know have prostate cancer? Prostate cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed forms of cancer diagnosed in Canadian men and it is the second most common cause of death from cancer among men. It affects men who are predominantly 50 years of age or older.
The Motorcycle Ride for Dad aims to bring awareness to prostate cancer, and to raise funds to support cancer research and public awareness. What started out as a small event in Ottawa, Ontario with 80 motorcyclists raising $20,000 for the Ottawa Cancer Research Centre has become an annual event stretching across the country with more than 30 cities now hosting an annual Motorcycle Ride for Dad, and over $9,000,000 has been raised in the fight against prostrate cancer.
Motorcyclists hit the road in support of the Ride for Dad as early as May 26, 2012 in Montreal, Kingston, Barrie and Winnipeg, with rides continuing into June all across Canada. There are a number of ways to get involved in the Motorcycle Ride for Dad, the best of which is to register for a ride in your area and start collecting pledges. Rides are extremely well organized and take on a “Poker Run” format and in years past participants have had a great deal of fun experiencing the ride. Registration for the ride is $25.00 or FREE if you collect over $100.00 in donations.
If you don’t have a motorcycle, that’s no problem. Non-riders are also encouraged to get involved as a “Ride Champion.” Just like other participants in the Ride for Dad, Ride Champions complete a registration form and solicit pledges for the ride, however the only difference is they don’t actually ride. Once they register, Ride Champions are eligible for all prizes and awards and can become a member of the Captains Club just like registered riders.
Sign up now to participate in the Ride for Dad in your area and be a part of the mission to raise awareness for prostate cancer! Further information about the Motorcycle Ride for Dad or details on how to donate can be found online at: www.ridefordad.ca or download the pledge form here. Inside Motorcycles subscribers will have received a Registration/Donation form polybagged with their March/April issue.
