As AMA Pro Racing action continued at the BigM Weekend at Miller Motorsports park yesterday, two Buells joined pole setter Blake Young and reigning champion Josh Hayes on the front row of the 20 bike AMA Pro Superbike field.

While Young briefly led, Hayes quickly assumed the lead and never looked back leaving Rodger Lee Hayden, Young and Hayes teammate Josh Herrin in a spirited fight for second. In a near perfect ride, defending AMA Superbike champion Josh Hayes reclaimed the points lead following a previous crash at Infineon by a point-perfect weekend at Miller. The Monster Energy Graves Yamaha rider launched his Yamaha R1 from pole position and never looked back, crossing the finish line 7.774 seconds ahead of second place finisher and teammate Josh Herrin.

In what he described as a beautiful day for racing and a perfect Memorial Day, Hayes explained, “What an awesome day. The bike was good, things have been pretty smooth for the weekend, we didn’t really make too many changes, and we just worked on getting good clean laps. All in all, it was a pretty smooth run.”

While a spirited battle took place for second, it was eventually Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Herrin who took second position following a spirited battle with Blake Young,  ultimately prevailing giving Monster Energy Graves Yamaha a 1-2 finish. Roger Lee Hayden, who had been fastest in the morning warmup suffered his third crash of the weekend and left the race on the 6th lap.

In XR1200 action, Canada’s Darren James rode his Ruthless Racing Deely Harley-Davidson to a 7th place finish in a field of 15 rdiers, while Ben Young rode his FOGI Racing Yamaha R6 to 21st position in the Daytona Sportbike class and Canadian-born Javelin Broderick rode his Dynojet Research Diablo Racing Yamaha R6 to an impressive 17th place in a packed field of over 47 riders.
