Navarra, Spain – FOGI Racing had a successful weekend in the Spanish Moto2 Championship. Despite challenging weather conditions in qualifying Tommy Aquino managed to pull out a top 10 finish at Circuito de Navarra in Sunday’s race held just outside Pamplona.

Young American Aquino piloted the FTR Moto2 machine at this new circuit for testing one week earlier which enabled him and other riders to familiarize themselves with this new course on the CEV schedule this year.  FOGI Racing’s Andrew Murray was asked about the weekend, and replied “In only two rounds we continue to see great improvements with the team and the bike. Both Tommy and the team look forward to more testing before Round 3 at Aragon Motorland in a month’s time.”

On race day, morning practice saw dry conditions for the first time all weekend, and while the track surface was still cold Aquino managed to get the bike sorted out quickly in preparation for the afternoon’s race. Thousands of fans were on hand to see great racing of future world champions at this new circuit just outside Pamplona.  FOGI Racing’s Pilot Tommy Aquino ran consistently throughout the race but struggled to find grip in the second half of the race. Aquino was asked about his result, and replied “I’m glad with the improvements from Round 1 at Jerez, and I know with a few more changes I can be competing at the top of the field. If we can get some more testing with the bike I’m confident I can compete for a podium finish throughout the season”.

FOGI Racing is very happy with the start to the 2012 season given the extremely short time period in which the team came together, and look forward to the remainder of the CEV series and any possible Moto2 wildcard entries in the world championship. Also, as with every race weekend the team was closely following other races around the world, and want to wish fellow Canadian World Superbike Pilot Brett McCormick a quick recovery.
