Anytime that you have a chance to cross an item off your bucket list is a good day. So when Ducati called with an invitation to come test the all-new 2019 Diavel 1260 S in Spain, I immediately starting packing in anticipation of the Spanish roads that I have spent years dreaming of.
The ride from the southern seaside town of Malaga up into the surrounding hills on the way to the mountaintop city of Ronda town lived up to, and exceeded, the expectations that had been formulated over several years. With everything from narrow, technical roads with tight corners to high-speed sweepers combined with dramatic elevation changes, the roadways of Spain left me inspired and already planning a return trip.
I am told the scenery along this route is equally amazing, but in all honesty the pace of the Diavel 1260 S required that eyes remain firmly focused on the never-ending sequences of entry points, apexes and corner exits. Spain isn’t going anywhere and one day I will go back for a more leisurely ride. In the meantime this was the perfect location to test performance of the updated Diavel.
While it would be impossible to try and encapsulate all the elements of the updated Diavel into this quick post, I will say that in addition to being one of the most visually stunning motorcycles on the road today, the combination of Ducati’s 1,262 cc Testastretta DVT engine, a refined chassis and an industry leading electronics package has created a motorcycle that performs as good as it looks. Of course, with a name taken from the Bologna Italian dialect that translates to Devil, it comes as no surprise that this motorcycle had the ability to draw out a rider’s inner hooligan and keep throttles twisting more and more open as the day progressed.
The complete review of the 2019 Ducati Diavel 1260 S will appear in the July issue of Inside Motorcycles, in mailboxes and on newsstands in May. In the meantime the combination of this motorcycle’s cutting edge Italian design set against the backdrop of these amazing Spanish roadways resulted in images that we simply couldn’t wait to share with you. We hope enjoy them.

The new Diavel 1260 receives the prestigious "Red Dot Design Award 2019" for its unmistakeable style
Borgo Panigale (Bologna, Italy), 25 March 2019 – The new Diavel 1260 has won one of the most prestigious international awards for design, the "Red Dot Award: Best of the Best" in the Product Design category.
Each year since 1955, the "Red Dot Design Award" has been assigned to the most original and worthy entries in terms of design and innovation. After evaluating over 5,500 products, a highly qualified jury made up of 40 international famous experts has assigned the new Diavel 1260 with the prestigious title "Red Dot Award 2019: Best of the Best".
This is the third winner for the Bologna-based company, following the previous awards won by two such iconic motorcycles as the 1199 Panigale in 2013 and the XDiavel S in 2016, showing how a Ducati bike can be an icon of style, innovation and performance.
Powerful and muscular, the new Diavel 1260 combines the performance of a maxi-naked with the ergonomics of a muscle cruiser. Its sophisticated design reinterprets the Diavel style in a contemporary key, and integrates a Testastretta DVT 1262 engine with 159 hp, the bike's real pulsing heart.
"It's never easy to win such important and sought-after recognition as the Red Dot Award. Succeeding for the third time thanks to another iconic bike like the Diavel 1260 is a tribute to the creativity and innovation of Ducati, which fills us with pride," commented Andrea Ferraresi, Ducati Style Centre Manager. "Even though we are aware that our motorcycles are exciting, refined and good-looking, it is always gratifying and stimulating for those who work in the field of design and style to receive such important recognition. A huge number of entries from major protagonists of design throughout the world competed for the award. Now we look forward to the same level of enthusiasm from our fans; the bikes are in fact already available through Ducati dealers."
The climax for this award is at the Red Dot Award gala ceremony, which will take place on 8 July at the Aalto Theatre in Essen, Germany, with an audience of 1200 invitees made up of the most notable representatives of international design.
The 2019 Red Dot Design Awards ceremony is part of a busy calendar – the coming months are in fact full of events dedicated to design and to the new Diavel 1260.
