Tuenti HP 40’s Pol Espargaró didn’t hold back on the second day of Moto2™ testing in Valencia as he posted the fastest time ahead of Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Nico Terol and Interwetten-Paddock’s Tom Lüthi on Wednesday.
A time of 1:35.520 saw the Spaniard storm ahead of Terol by just over two tenths, with Espargaró setting his lap late in the day, compared to Terol’s morning run. Terol was testing his new bike for the first time, praising in particular its good grip under acceleration.
Lüthi, on the second Suter machine in the top three, will be pleased by his surge in performance on day two, as he marginally held off the charge from Italtrans Racing Team’s Julián Simón, who is looking ever more comfortable on board a Kalex machine.
Espargaró’s teammate Esteve Rabat looks to have picked up where he left off last year by going fifth fastest, followed by Johann Zarco on his Came IodaRacing Project Suter, doing well to overcome a small crash on Tuesday.
Italtrans’ Takaaki Nakagami came in seventh, ahead of Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding and NGM Mobile Forward Racing Team’s Simone Corsi.
Terol’s teammate Jordi Torres rounded out the top 10, while Tech 3 Racing’s Danny Kent was the fastest rookie in 23rd, just under 2.5s off the top.
On the second day of Moto3™ testing JHK T-Shirt Laglisse’s Maverick Viñales once again set the pace ahead of his compatriots, Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins and Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Luis Salom.
A time of 1.40.168 on his factory spec KTM bike set in the final session of the day could not be matched by Rins, who was however only 0.24s off. Salom was a only fractionally slower in third, with San Carlo Team Italia’s Romano Fenati the fastest FTR Honda in fourth.
