Multi-time Canadian Motorcycle Association national flat track champion and Number 1 plate holder Don Taylor has secured himself a ride for the upcoming AMA Grand National flat track season.
Taylor, who spent most of his time in Canada last year contesting both dirt track and road racing events, will be riding for AMA Hall of Famer Bill Werner. Taylor will be aboard a twin that is based on a Kawasaki 650 squeezed into a J&M frame.
“We are going to run a select schedule starting with the first Springfield mile race in May,” Taylor confirmed. “Right now we aren’t commited to doing any of the western rounds, but that could change depending on results.”
Taylor will also be attending the season opening doubleheader on the short track at Daytona International Speedway in mid-March. With Daytona being a short track they don’t run the big twins there, so Taylor will be contesting those races on his own 450 cc machine. While Taylor hasn’t firmed up anything in Canada yet, fans can expect to see him battling with the other experts whenever the flat track show comes to town. Time permitting, Taylor is also hoping he can attend a couple of Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship events on the big Harley Davidson XR1200 that he debuted last year.
