September 29, 2014- The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association wrapped up its 2014 campaign with the Season Finals, held on September 27 and 28 at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip in Southern Alberta, and among those taking home hardware was Ethan Barkley of Calgary Alberta who regained the Pro Street title in dramatic fashion.
Arriving in Medicine Hat, Barkley knew he would not only need to win the event, but also set a national record in order to accumulate enough points to overcome the lead of fellow Calgary resident, and reigning 2013 Pro Street Champion, Rob Aston. True to form, Barkley set a new national Pro Street ¼ mile record speed of 192.81 mph, and went on to defeat Aston in a final round showdown, to take home his 14th National CMDRA title.
Following the race, Barkley received additional accolades as his peers presented him with the Trev Deeley Award for Dedication and Contribution to Motorcycle Drag Racing in Canada, as well as the Dennis Mark Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Wrench of the Year Award.
In the other Pro Classes, Burke Forster of Fort St. John BC, won both the Season Finals and 2014 Championship in the BlackJacks Roadhouse Pro Mod class, while Al Miles took home the 2014 Screamin’ Eagle Pro Dragster title, despite be handed his first loss in two years by Evan Barsness of the Berzerkerz Racing Team. Barsness went on to win the event and his first CMDRA trophy.
The Season Finals also featured the annual East vs. West Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod Destroyer matchup with the Eastern Champion, Chris Fox of Fox Harley-Davidson Racing, claiming the National title by defeating the newly crowned Western Champion Jeff Pitre.
