The Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association opening round of 2013 at the Eagle Motorplex in Ashcroft, BC saw Nate Gagnon claim victory in the first Screamin’ Eagle Top Fuel race of the year. Back home in BC after a season in Europe, the 2012 UEM Super Twin Champion wasted no time in making his presence known. Despite less than optimal track conditions which limited the Top Fuel class to 1/8th mile runs, Gagnon managed to hit 168 mph in the final, relegating 2012 Champion and fellow BC resident Damian Cownden to the runner-up position.
The Blackjacks Roadhouse Pro Modified class continued to provide heart stopping action and down to the wire races. Despite running over 200 mph in morning practice, Hope BC’s Gary Christopher was eliminated in the first round by Tony Clizbe of Brooks Alberta by just 0.05 of a second, moving Clizbe into the final against 2012 champion Len Darnell. With Darnell having already claimed victory in the Super Bike class earlier in the day, the Vancouver Washington resident was in perfect form, running an impressive 6.808 second quarter mile at 194.3 mph in the final to defeat Clizbe.
