On August 4th and 5th mini roadracers from across Western Canada and Washington State descended on the Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack, British Columbia for the fifth and sixth rounds of the CMA Mini Roadracing National Championship presented by Parts Canada.

Intense temperatures throughout the weekend of 40 degrees celcius increased dramatically for Calgary’s Jason Ort when a highside during qualifying saw his new GP Formula bike catch fire.  In the true spirit of grass roots racing, Jason who was fortunately unhurt in the incident, worked with the PCMRC’s resident mechanical guru Brian Enns and to everyone’s amazement had his bike ready for the next day’s racing.

The racing highlights of the weekend were provided by Chilliwack’s ten year old Jake Hayes and the AMRA’s Braeden Ort of  Calgary. It was immediately apparent as soon as qualifying got underway, and the rest of the field was left behind, that spectators were witnessing the birth of a rivalry that will provide many years of great racing. At the end of a weekend of racing that featured back and forth wheel to wheel racing, Jake had accumulated a 1st and three 2nd place results while Braeden picked up two victories and two 3rd place finishes. As one spectator observed “The greatest thing about these boys is that after they finished battling on the track they shake hands, laugh and talk about their race.”

The seventh and final round of the 2012 CMA Mini Roadracing National Championship will be hosted by the Saskatchewan Mini Roadracing Association at the Martensville Speedway Track on September 1st.
