Calgary Alberta’s Varsity Speed Park played host to the second and third rounds of the 2012 CMA Mini Roadracing National Championship Series presented by Parts Canada on the Canada Day weekend with racers and families enjoying two action packed days of racing featuring thirteen different classes.
With each of the clubs fighting for podium spots and bragging rights, the Prairie Sport Riders Association unleashed their trifecta of Robyn, Jana and Brooke Ham. In addition to monopolizing all the podium steps in the ladies class, the Ham sisters contributed top three results in the Spec 21 & Under, Under 21 Formula, and Spec Supersport classes. During Sunday’s round 3 Spec Supersport Race Jana showed that sisterly love stays in the paddock as she surprised her notoriously fast sister Robyn with a last lap pass to steal the victory.
Not to be outdone, Cody Conrad of the Alberta Mini Roadracing Association swept both rounds of the Under 21 Formula, while fellow AMRA member Chuck Downie won the Super Motard class both days.
If trophies were awarded for providing pure racing excitement and entertainment, the weekend’s recipients would undoubtedly be Calgary’s Dave Stokowski and Jay Baloch whose back and forth battles in the Spec Over 21 and Thunder Classes will not soon be forgotten.
AMRA president Jay Fox added his own drama to Saturday’s round two races when he inadvertently got his foot twisted up under his own bike while racing and ended up with multiple fractures. Always a trend setter, Jay’s ride to the hospital in a bright red Ferrari has now set the standard of treatment all AMRA members will expect.
Round four of the CMA Mini Roadracing National Championship will be held at Edmonton’s Stratotech Racetrack on July 22nd.
