BOWMANVILLE, Ont. — A day after clinching his second straight K&N Performance Filters Pro Sport Bike title, Jodi Christie ran away with the season finale at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Sunday.
The Keene, Ont. racer grabbed the lead off the start on his Jodi Christie Racing / Accelerated Technologies Honda CBR600RR and was never challenged en route to his fifth win in six races this season.
Raphael Archambault of Terrebonne, Que. finished second on his Team Archambault Racing / Picotte Motorsport / G Suspension Suzuki GSX-R600, 9.477 secs. behind Christie after a racelong battle with the Acme Slate Suzuki GSX-R600 of Frank Trombino and Michael Leon on the Royal Distributing / Elka Suspension Honda CBR600RR.
“I wanted to do some fast laps at the beginning and see if I good get a good gap,” said Christie, who had edged Archambault for the win in Saturday’s race. “We had a great bike set-up and thanks to Rob Egan of Brooklin Cycle we were able to a bit more power, which helped on the back straight.”
After fighting with Christie for the win on Saturday Archambault found himself dealing with Trombino and Leon on Sunday afternoon.
“I had a good race with Frank,” Archambault said. “He was faster out of turn two and was able to get me into turn three once, but I had an advantage on the straight. It was a great battle.”
Trombino claimed third, which secured second in the final point standings for the Kleinburg, Ont. racer, while Leon crashed on the final lap, without injury.
“It was one of the most exciting races I’ve been in,” said Trombino, who announced his retirement from competition on the podium after the race. “You had to play your cards right. We were a bit down on horsepower so I knew I had to brake deep at the end of the backstraight to keep any advantage.”
Leon went down while trying to pass Trombino at the end of the backstraight when he got onto the slippery concrete.
Louie Raffa of Ste-Marthe, Que., riding the Centre Hamel Honda / Team Couturier Honda CBR600RR, edged the Acme Slate Yamaha YZF-R6 of Kaladar, Ont.’s James Collins for fourth.
