In 2015 BMW captured the attention of cruiser enthusiasts with the introduction of its Concept 101, a prototype motorcycle designed as a potential foray into the competitive American touring segment. On October 10, 2016, at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, that concept became reality with the announcement that the BMW K1600B would be part of the 2017 lineup offered at dealerships throughout North America.
Based around the brand’s proven K1600GT and its inline six-cylinder engine delivering 160 hp of power and 129 ft-lb of torque, the rear section of the K1600B has been redesigned to incorporate hard saddlebags with fixed lighting and a bagger-style silhouette. A blacked-out drivetrain and chromed exhaust silencers add to the overall look of the motorcycle. The K1600B should compete with existing baggers like the Harley-Davidson Street Glide and Road Glide as well as the Honda Gold Wing F6B.
The K1600B also features leading-edge technology including electronically-controlled Dynamic ESA (electronic suspension), reverse assist and an optional Shift Assistant Pro setup for clutchless upshifts.
Pricing and Canadian arrival has yet to be confirmed.
